With a poor 2013-14 season by Newcastle United standards, a slow start to this season could potentially see Alan Pardrew increase the already high number of United fans calling for his sacking. So it’s important for the Magpies to hit the ground running.
Most important signing
Should Remy Cabella emulate the same form in Newcastle as he did in the blue and white strip of Montpellier, he will be a fantastic signing for United. The 24 year old French internationalist is blessed with a brilliant eye for a pass and goal. He has a brilliant turn of pace and in Montpellier known change matches single handily.
Other signings
As well as Cabella, Pardrew has signed Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback, Siem de Jong from Ajax, Monaco target man Emmanuel Rivière ,composed right back Daryl Janmaat from Feyenoord and Nottingham Forest duo Karlo Darlow and Jamaal Lascelles .
Areas to be strengthened
With the creative Hatem Ben Arfa out of favour with Pardrew, United lack pace in wide areas. I believe Watford’s Ikechi Anya would fit perfectly into the Magpies playing style and would be exactly what is needed to give Newcastle United a little more attacking prowess.
Key player- Fabricio Coloccini
The big centre half will be an integral part of Newcastle’s defence this season. Coloccini was out for much of last season and during that time the Magpies lacked a proper leadership figure in defensive areas, a consistent performer who reads the game cleverly.
Where they’ll finish?
Let’s face it: Newcastle United could finish anywhere between 8th and 18th. Thanks to a number of encouraging signings this summer I believe they will finish around 13th place.
